How can I turn off voicemail on Cingular entirely?

I've tried calling Cingular several times. No luck with customer service. I've tried going into "call divert" and setting it to "off." That did not work either. Any specific ideas that you can provide-- details please Call forwarding costs me money with the account, so I would like to avoid that and just turn voicemail off.

1. Customer care is the only way to turn off voice mail completely if they give you any hassle at all just ask for a manager. It is a simple feature that is included and their is no charge for having the feature on the account. If the reason you want to have voice mail removed is because it uses daytime minutes you can simply check your voice mail from a land based phone and press * when your greeting comes on and type in your password. If this is not the case just tell the represtative that you need to have voice mail removed from the account or completely reset so you can record a new greeting and then just don't do this. If this is done then when someone calls you your phone will say We're sorry but the person you are trying to reach has not set up their mailbox.
