How do you turn off voicemail on your Verizon phone?

I used to have an Alltel phone and to turn your voicemail on and off, you just had to press *780 or *78. Those numbers don't work for my new Verizon phone and I can't figure out which ones do. The Verizon website was no help.

1. you can't do this with Verizon. You can remove voice mail from a line if you call customer support, but there is no way to toggle vm.
