Voicemail

Why do you get charged minutes when calling your voicemail on your cell phone?

I even have mobile to mobile. I am calling my number to access voicemail, so you would think it would be a free call.

  1. Yea i know but people would do anything to get money even when it means calling your own cellphone.
  2. Yes. I think that it is a little unfair but logically it makes sense. I check my voicemail from a landline phone.
  3. Because phone company's like to charge you for random usage. also if you look at your bill...Do you have Taxes that can't really be explained?
  4. thats how they rip you off.
  5. when you call your cell voicemail on your cell phone, you get charged minutes on your cell phone bill when you call your cell voicemail on your home phone, you get charged on your home phone bill
  6. Because you're still using the cellular network to access your v-mail. I use a prepaid cellular service, because I use my cell phone very rarely. Because the minutes are more expensive this way (being a low-use plan) I access my v-mail account over a land-line whenever possible. You should be able to dial your cell phone number and click an override button when v-mail picks up (probably the "#" or "*" key.) Then, enter your password, and you should have access. Check with your provider on how to access your v-mail account remotely.
  7. because this is the way they earn money!!
  8. i have sprint and i know that they charge for voicemail when you call from your phone. its true you can call from a landline but its such and inconvienence. I added "mobile to mobile" on my account, which lets me talk to other sprint people (and nextel people now too). it doesnt charge me anymore because im technically calling a sprint phone number. finally we can beat the system!! haha
  9. if you are married or just have a significant other with the same sevice, just use their phone to call your phone and get your messages that way..and you dont loose any minutes..i do agree though it should be free
  10. Because then people would be cheating the system by not picking up calls from other people with different carriers and then they leave a voicemail and all you do is listen to it later for free. No no no, they know all the tricks, so anyway how many voicemails can you get really? I don't mind it.
