Is there a way to customize Samsung Katalyst (tmobile)?

I'm not a big cell phone person that mod's his cellphone but I wanted to know if there was software or even a way to customize the Katalyst. A specific example of what I am looking to do: Instead of the 4 tones they give you for text or voicemail alerts, I would like to add my own. I do have some mp3's for ringtones and either I am not seeing how to set an mp3 from the memory card (I did buy 1g sd for mp3 ringtones) or from the music to use it for text alerts, voice mail alerts, or even alarm clock. I have tried browsing the user manual and maybe just am not seeing it. Sorry this is long winded but if anyone knows how to really customize the katalyst and have a bit of patience (am technologically inclined just not with cell phones it seems) please help a novice out. Thank you!

1. Congratulations on your new samsung phone. You will soon realize the many limitations within the samsung phone OS itself. There is no way to use custom message tones in an easy manner. In fact, the only way to do this really is to modify the image files within the Firmware and flash the Mod to the phone. I am still trying to figure out how to modify the firmware myself, I have had this phone for 2 months now, and I really miss the amount of customization Motorola and nokia offers.
