What does it mean when a cell phone rings once then goes to voicemail?

my boyfriend is out of town. we got in a fight. he himself doesnt have a cell phone, but his two best friends do, they are in an area where theres not very good cell service,both of their phones rang once then when to voicemail, do you think they are ignoring my calls, or is it that they dont have signal?

1. 1) they may be on the phone 2) no signal 3) some service's allow you to block certain numbers
2. Either they don't have a signal or their phones are turned off. Call once, leave a message, and wait for them to return your call. Don't keep trying to call. When your boyfriend returns you can resolve the argument. Right now enjoy some time with your girlfriends who will be there for you no matter what!
