Voicemail

Is there a software program that turns a voice mail into text?

we have a small seasonal business and are plagued with not getting critical information to the office to be inputted and processed. this information ranges from the time that employees arrive and go home for the day, the starting time and ending time of jobs, and the most often lost info is when materials are picked up for a job and not reported. \ If we overpay labor and undercharge customers for work and material our profit marging simple evaporates. we want to try a system that takes a simple phone call every time a reportable event occurs and then take that information and process it from the voice mail and compare it to the paperwork turned in when preparing payroll and invoices and paying bills at the end of the month as most materials are on account so if we get a monthly bill it is the first time we are aware of a lot of expenses that didnt get billed because the receipt never got turned in. what is the best way to handle this issue?

  1. That technology may very well exist today. If it does, you can't afford it (or the industrial strength hardware required to run it) You may have heard of software that converts voice into text. This is quite common, and affordable. The problem is, it has to LEARN YOUR VOICE first. In a voice mail environment, it would have to re-learn a new voice every single call. This would require unbelievable amounts of processing power and computer resources, IF it could be done at all. There are inflections, dialects, ESL people (English is their Second Language), people with colds, coughs, etc - it's a very daunting task for a computer to perform. Why not look into a different methodology for your reporting? Isn't there a way your staff, agents, customers can supply TEXT of some sort? via PDA, or cell phone text message, or...? Sure would be a whole lot easier for your PC systems to handle than voice!
