How do I get my KRZR to stop saying there is voice mail when there is not?

My mom gave me her old KRZR. It had the same issue when she had it - the little icon that says you have a message just sits there, even if you have no voice mails. When you go into the messaging system, it says there are 2 new voice mails, even though when you call to retrieve the voice mails, there are none... I tried deleting the thing that says 2 but the 2 will not go away. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more information. And thank you!

1. trade it in. there's no way to fix it as far as i can see the glitch seems to be hard wired into the thing. i had the same problem with a similar phone a while back=/
