Why is it that toll-free numbers start with 1-800?

1. Because they are not local phone numbers
2. Why do fake numbers start with 555? The world may never know.
3. They all don't . . 888, 877, and 866 are also toll free numbers. It is the "area code" that was decided on to designate toll free numbers. It makes them recognizable (that way companies can't mislead people into thinking they're calling a toll free number when they are not).
4. it shows the uniqueness of a toll-free no. so as the viewer knows by just seeing it..........
