How do you find out who owns a toll-free number?

I have a toll-free vanity number that I would like to obtain and is currently disconnected, but gives another number to call. The owner of that number has no idea that it is being forwarded to her and doesn't own it. How do I find out who owns a toll-free number and how to contact the owner? Any other ideas on how to obtain vanity numbers? I am starting a business and would love to get my hands on a few toll-free numbers that aren't in use, but unavailable when I check through AT&T's tool (http://businessesales.att.com/products_services/tollfreeproduct_cataloglookup.jhtml). Thanks for any ideas. toll-free assistance and online reverse directories don't have the owner's information. Thanks for the suggetions though. I have already tried them.

  1. 1-800-555-1212 that is directory information for 800 #'s they I am sure can help you.
  2. There is a toll free yellow pages - just look up number backwards. Call & ask - it can't hurt but if anything like vanity license plate -owners they are not likely to give it up. I have been trying to get plate that says "GO PACK" for years , I even have 2 people at DMV watching - the guy who has it loves it too. I bet you will find your numbers are not up for sale either.
  3. You can use the Reverse Phone Directory: http://www.therpd.com/ Also there are many services online which will do the work for you such as: http://www.inter800.com/
  4. Google referred me to www.whitepages.com.
  5. In the USA, you're not just limited to the 800#. The wikipedia link I included also shows other countrys' tollfree prefixes. You could try any of the directory searches for vanity numbers, such as: Search for a custom 800-number: http://www.tollfreelive.com/800-numbers/800-numbers.aspx?p=vo&gclid=CPbKw7X08YgCFRhuYAod8jeckA http://www.ourtollfree800number.com/
  6. Try Googling the number in quotes. Otherwise try calling a local phone company to locate the owners.
